Moving from the elders and eminent musicians in the Human series, as well as the technical challenges of capturing other species and the Moon and Earth series, Andrew turned his attention to a subject representing the other side of the unknown: small humans.
Big Babies presents them photographed with the same precise detail and indirection of light as previous subjects, at larger-than-life scale. This scale allows viewers to see the topology of faces, which lack the referential marks of experience and instead imply a large interior world through bright, inquisitive eyes. Presented at larger-than-life scale, the series also undoes the sense of fragility most infants inherently project, instead creating a sense of approachability and delight.
Big Babies is an ongoing series.
