Seed
The origin of all plant life, seeds are nature’s expression of newness and potential. They’re also representative of a long collaboration between humans and nature dating back to the earliest agricultural societies. Germinating and photographing seeds amounts to a study of beauty, growth, and possibility in form, their shapes and growth patterns by turns both anthropomorphic and alien. Each finished image is a study of the origins of color in nature: it utilizes a uniform background, its color drawn directly from the subject. These moments of growth expressed in pure color create a field, and different photographs when grouped become a palette derived from the diverse expressions of a single species.
