Bird

The Bird project began directly after Creature and utilizes the same photographic and post production techniques on a more technically challenging subject. Bird represented a challenge—birds as a subject are harder to capture and present more difficulty in attempting to create an emotional connection. The species in this series range from relatively common to extremely rare, and their somewhat unfamiliar bodies, movements, and dynamics gave both the studio and viewers a chance to push into new territory.

Andrew Zuckerman approaches birds with a contemporary, minimalist attitude: no more narrative context, no more psychological interpretations, no more candid shots in the wilderness. An absolute background made of pure white light acts as the field on which the birds fly or rest. In this incredibly luminous setting, the colours of the birds’ plumage come to life as never before seen by the human eye.
