When we spend time observing species across nature, it becomes clear that all of nature has an interior life. Even the smallest creatures, at first seemingly alien, reveal a deep familiarity the longer we look. That recognition is a recognition of shared life—a reminder that, as eminent biologist E.O. Wilson says, “we live in their world, not the other way around.”
“For every human on Earth, there are about 200 million insects… If all mankind were to disappear, the world would regenerate back to the rich state of equilibrium that existed ten thousand years ago. If insects were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos.”
Scaling images of insects to human proportions allows us to engage with them on equal footing, bringing into focus the extraordinary creatures that form the foundation of life on Earth.
